Permits in Mountain View
What the city
asks for.
These points come from Mountain View's Demolition Permit page for single-family homes and duplexes.
From the City of Mountain View
- A permit is required to demolish a structure, and it must be obtained before work starts.
- The city asks for a site plan, a BAAQMD acknowledgement letter and a PG&E letter showing gas and electric are disconnected.
- It also asks for a letter from the demolition company covering the timeline, work hours, dust and noise control, method and site security.
- The site plan shows every tree to be protected, including heritage and street trees, plus a truck route to the dump.
- The city lists the fee as $350 per structure (based on a $5,000 valuation) and a typical 5 business days to receive the permit.
- Work in the street or sidewalk needs an approved encroachment permit and traffic control plan from Public Works.
How we help
- At the walk-through we tell you what paperwork your job is likely to need.
- We haul the debris on our own trucks, so one crew knows where every load went.
- We can usually start within 48 hours of your go-ahead. On permitted work the start date follows the permit.
Checked against the City of Mountain View's residential Demolition Permit page in October 2026. Rules and forms change, so confirm with the city before you plan around them.
